Highlights in Singapore

Marina Bay Sands SkyPark

The Marina Bay Sands SkyPark is absolutely worth visiting. As a hotel guest, access was included, so of course I checked it out. Seeing Singapore from above really puts the city into perspective, especially with the skyline, the water, and the perfectly ordered streets below.

Even if you are not staying at the hotel, the view alone makes it a popular stop. For guests, it feels like a huge bonus and part of the overall experience.

Gardens by the Bay

Gardens by the Bay was without a doubt my highlight in Singapore.

The light and music show in the evening was magical. I watched it twice, once from the park itself and once from the top of Marina Bay Sands. While both views were interesting, I would strongly recommend watching it directly from the gardens. Being surrounded by the Supertrees, the music, and the atmosphere makes it far more immersive.

I also visited:

  • Cloud Forest, which I really enjoyed. At the time, it had a Jurassic Park theme, which made the experience fun and slightly surreal. The indoor waterfall and misty walkways were impressive and felt genuinely special.

  • Flower Dome, which was nice but not particularly memorable. It felt very touristy and a bit corny compared to the Cloud Forest.

If you have limited time, I would prioritize the Cloud Forest and the evening light show.

Spiritual and Cultural Stops

  • Sri Mariamman Temple
This Hindu temple is incredibly impressive and colorful, even just from the outside. The detailed facade alone makes it worth stopping by, especially while exploring Chinatown.

  • Buddha Tooth Relic Temple
I arrived too late to go inside, so I only admired it from the outside. Even then, it stands out with its grand architecture and calm presence in the middle of the city.

Right next to it is a street market right next to it.

  • Lau Pa Sat

During a heavy downpour, I took shelter at one of Singapore’s most famous hawker centres. I did not eat there at the time, but it is packed with food options and buzzing with energy. Even as a quick stop, it felt like a very local and lively place to experience.

Downtown Strolls and City Highlights

I spent time walking through Downtown, Boat Quay, and Clarke Quay, passing by landmarks like the Ferris wheel, CHIJMES, historic churches, and the Parliament building.

These walks are enjoyable if you like:

  • Urban strolls

  • Architecture and city planning

  • Seeing how old and new coexist

That said, if you are only in Singapore for a short stopover, this part is skippable. The city’s standout experiences are more concentrated around Marina Bay and the gardens.
