My Route & Stay in Malaysia

Instead of traveling around the country, I based myself entirely in Kuala Lumpur for 10 days. At first, I wondered whether I should have added places like Penang or Langkawi, but looking back, slowing down in one city was exactly what I needed.

Kuala Lumpur (10 nights)

ibis Kuala Lumpur City Centre (10 nights - €675)

After months of constantly moving between cities, islands, guesthouses, and hotels, it felt nice to unpack for a little longer and settle into a routine.

The hotel was well located, making it easy to explore different parts of the city, whether by foot, public transport, or Grab. The rooms were modern and comfortable, and the hotel had everything I needed for a longer stay.

It had a nice rooftop pool and bar, which offered fantastic views of the city skyline and I could even get a glimpse of one of the Petronas Towers from my room.

What I loved

  • Great location for exploring KL

  • Comfortable, modern rooms especially for a longer stay

  • Rooftop pool with city views

  • Good value compared to other hotels in the area

  • Easy access to public transport and Grab

Things to consider

  • KL is very spread out, so you’ll likely need transport

  • The area around the Petronas Towers can be quite busy during peak times

Would I stay again? Yes.

For a city stay, it offered a great combination of comfort, convenience and value. It worked especially well as a base for a longer visit and gave me plenty of opportunities to explore KL at a slower pace.

Final Thoughts

Malaysia became less about constantly moving and more about settling into a rhythm. Instead of changing hotel every few days, I unpacked my backpack, found favorite cafés, explored different neighborhoods, and enjoyed having one place to come back to each evening.
