Vegan Food in Siem Reap

What to expect

Compared to Indonesia or even Vietnam, the vegan scene here is smaller, but still surprisingly good.

There are a handful of fully vegan or vegetarian cafés and restaurants, plus plenty of places that offer plant-based options if you ask.

It didn’t feel overwhelming, but it also never felt difficult. More like a few really good spots that you keep coming back to.


Places I loved

Peace Café

One of those places where you naturally slow down a bit.

I had tofu with fresh vegetables and rice, but there were sooo many options to choose from. I also had coffee with soy milk that came with a little cookie. Simple, but exactly what I needed on the first day.

My favorite spot in Siem Reap.

The fried cauliflower and Ceasar wrap not only looked beautiful, but tasted just as good. I liked it so much I came back again for a burger.

The Community

Some of my favorite meals were actually at the hotel.

After my temple tour, I decided to take it easy and had lunch there. They prepared summer rolls and pad Thai for me. I skipped the sauce because it smelled a bit fishy and I wasn’t completely sure what was in it, but the rest was great.

On my last day, after check-out, I had a simple meal of rice with morning glory, which I really liked, followed by a warm banana dessert. Nothing fancy, but one of those meals that just feels right.


Final thoughts

Siem Reap might not be a vegan hotspot in the same way Bali is, but it doesn’t need to be.

There’s enough variety to feel comfortable, and enough quality to enjoy it.

Food wasn’t the highlight of Cambodia for me, but it supported everything else.

And somehow, that felt like the right way to leave it.
